If a person has a bowel movement less frequently than 3 times a week, then he should be regarded as constipated. In addition, if the stool is hard and difficult to pass, the patient should be regarded as constipated, even if the frequency of bowl movement is more.
Causes of constipation:
Inadequate diet, lack of fibrous food.
Lack of exercise
Iron supplementation etc.
Psychiatric & neurological disorders
Ignoring the urge
Along with the treatment, the patient should be asked to take adequate diet containing fibers & exercise regularly if he is physically fit. Also ensure that he is drinking enough quantity of water daily.
